Texas is the purest private-land hunting market in America — roughly ninety-five percent of the state is privately owned, and effectively all serious deer hunting happens on a lease. It is also the most stratified: the same word, "lease", covers a $5-per-acre Pineywoods deer lease and a $150-per-acre South Texas trophy operation.

Georgia is club country. Timber companies and family landowners lease hundreds of thousands of acres to organized hunting clubs, and those clubs — not individuals — are the unit that actually holds ground, collects dues, assigns stands, and signs the lease. If you want to hunt Georgia private land, you almost certainly join a club to do it.

Alabama's deer season runs from mid-October into February — one of the longest in the country. That length is the whole story. A club here is not coordinating four weekends; it is running a four-month operation across zones with different rules, and doing it out of a spreadsheet and a checkbook.

In Mississippi the word is camp, not club, and the institution is older than most of the software anyone has tried to sell it. Camps here hold ground for generations, run on elected officers and a members' meeting, and price their access against Delta and river-bottom ground that is among the most valuable leased hunting in the South.

Louisiana schedules deer across ten separate areas, each with its own calendar, and layers on some of the most infrastructure-heavy waterfowl access anywhere — flooded timber, rice, and marsh that has to be actively managed to be worth anything. It is the most operationally complex state in the launch set, which is exactly why it is in it.
